Strongbolt on an RAQ XTR

Postby dudematters on Tue Aug 08, 2006 9:19 pm

Is there someone who has Strongbolt running correctly on a RAQ XTR? I have an XTR here and would like to install Strongbolt, but the ROM update feature does not support XTR as far as I can figure out...

RaqXTR

Postby portmorgan on Wed Aug 09, 2006 3:13 pm

I'm also interested in running Strongbolt on RaqXTR's. I've acquired 9 Symantec Gateway Security servers which are XTR's with a yellow faceplate. The current ISO image 1.040-02 doesn't recognize the unit correctly, seems to think it is a Raq3. I'd be happy to loan a system for development and testing.

DON'T install SB on RaQ XTR's (yet !)

Postby jimbob on Mon Aug 14, 2006 9:18 pm

Currently Strongbolt does not work on RaQ XTR's.

And we would not recommend trying it.

It will most likely kill the XTR ROM.

We will look into XTR support soon.

Hi Jimbob

Any updates on this ?

regards

Klaus

Edit:

Ok could have made a new post but i feel like i am spamming the board so an edit will have to do...

I am definetly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but maybe other people here are. Feel like sharing the arising problems of the XTR and the SB installer? Maybe discussing over it brings new ideas. Ok in the end you two (Jim and Tim) are the ones that have to do the actual coding, but maybe ideas can be sparked.

Just a thought: Cant you simply (sorry for the word, no idea how to formulate it otherwise) remove the bios update process from the installer so users have to flash the rom manually for the XTr and go from there?

P.S: Raid 5 please :o)

Hi Klaus,

I can state that the xtr issues are not just to do with the rom update. I have managed to upgrade my xtr rom using the current SB installer cd, yes my xtr runs 2.10.3-ext3 rom.

It was more luck than judgement that I did not fry the unit when updating, as I did this before I found out that SB did not yet function on the XTR.

I believe that there are issues with the HDU interface and it kernel panics on the first reboot after installing the centos part of the SB installer.

I am sure jimbob will get this sorted soon, but having started a new job a few months ago, I think he is still settling in / getting things done his way.

Thanks
Andy

hi andy

thanks for the info. would have been too nice if it was that easy.

i have the 2.10.3 on my xtr as well, but i did it manualy with the material from sourceforge.

feel like sharing what a HDU is , or would that break the scope of this thread ?

i really hope jimbob gets around to porting the code over to the xtr. 2007 seems like a good year to do that (wink wink nudge nudge)

:o)

Hi,

The latest I heard from James is that he has got to this point:

...The main thing that is holding back the XTR installer is trying to work out how to pass the boot parameters to a kernel with translated boot devices.....I have spent a few days on it, but I am stumped...

Hopefully, James can pull in some help from his colleagues, but if anyone out there can help, then please PM "jimbob" via the forum, or alternatively, email: james at osoffice dot co dot uk

regards

Tim

Any advice I may give is given in good faith but may be incorrect so listen to what other people have to say as well and don't blame me when it all goes tits up.
